George Institute conducts health screening camp in Krishnalanka Karakatta, Vijayawada

A general health screening camp was held on 24th of June at the community centre in Krishnalanka Karakatta, one of the biggest urban slums in the city of Vijayawada by The George Institute for Global Health, India as part of an urban health project in Vijayawada funded by the HCL Foundation.

A total of 230 members of the community including children, women and elderly attended the free camp and availed various services.

  • The doctors present were a general physician, gynaecologist, paediatric and, a dental surgeon.
  • Medicines were provided free of cost and diagnostic tests were conducted as required.
  • Diagnostic services such as blood pressure and blood sugar testing, 2D ECHO, breast cancer screening and E.C.G. have been arranged for all the participants, free of cost.
  • Educational material on major health risks was shared at the camp to help improve awareness for various diseases in the urban slum community.

Mr G Narasimha Rao, the municipal corporator extended support to the team. Technical support to conduct the camp was provided by Manipal Hospitals, Vijayawada
