Healthier societies - India

Over half the world’s population lives in cities, and by 2050, this is expected to reach almost 70%. In low- and middle-income countries, one in three city dwellers live in informal settlements, where they experience high rates of ill-health and inequity.

The George Institute is harnessing the power of governments, markets and communities to improve health and create healthier societies.

We are focused on policy and interventions that can have the greatest impact on health outcomes at a population level, and address the broader determinants of health such as the food supply, transport, built environment, gender, and socioeconomic determinants of health.

We are engaged with consumers, communities, governments, industry, and other partners to find solutions to the biggest health challenges.

Our solutions

We are working in many countries to equitably improve the health of populations worldwide. We are developing innovative approaches to increase the positive impact of:

  • governments through research that supports evidence-based policy-making.
  • the commercial sector that has an influence on health, such as through the food supply, transport activity and delivery of health care or healthcare products.
  • communities in harnessing internal resources to improve local health outcomes.

Our strategy

Our mission is to improve the lives of millions of people through better treatments, better care, and healthier societies. Through a program of research, advocacy/thought leadership, and disruptive social entrepreneurship, we are driving global impact.
