You are a passionate healthy eating advocate. What inspired you to work in health research?

I have always been interested in food. I grew up on a farm in North Yorkshire in England. Everything was home cooked or from the farm or garden. Mum thought that buying anything like jam or packet gravy from the shop was cheating.

China needs to be cautious on controversial trend to change guidelines for people with diabetes and continue focus on aggressive, targeted blood pressure lowering treatment

New research appearing today in the Journal of American Medical Association indicates that starting blood pressure lowering in diabetes patients with mildly elevated blood pressure and treating it more aggressively provides important health benefits such as reduced risk of stroke and diabetic eye disease.

Women’s reproductive health linked to risk of heart disease and stroke

Girls who start their periods before they turn 12 are at greater risk of developing heart disease and stroke in later life, according to a new study of nearly 300,000 women in the UK by The George Institute for Global Health at the University of Oxford. 

Women who give birth at a young age, experience miscarriage or stillbirth, or who go through the menopause early, are also more likely to develop cardiovascular disease when they get older, the study found.
